Longevity Recipes From The Blue Zones
The Blue Zones, otherwise known as the science of living longer. identifies the five areas around the globe that has the world’s longest-lived people. A healthy plant based diet is one of the shared lifestyles these Blue Zone areas have in common. Here are two recipes for you to try so you can experience the delicious taste of these longevity foods.
Ikarian Bulgur Salad
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8X8 pan and set aside.
- Combine these ingredients in a food processor/blender:
- 15 oz black beans drained and rinsed
- 2 whole bananas
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/2 cup almond or peanut butter
- Add the above blended ingredients to 1/2 cup dry oats, 1/2 cup chocolate chips (dairy-free or not) and mix
- Add nuts too if you would like
- Pour int pan and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool and enjoy
Black Bean Chocolate Chunk Brownies
- Mix together these ingredients in a bowl and ENJOY!:
- 1 cup cooked bulgar wheat
- 1/2 cup parsley, finely chopped
- 1 large tomato, diced
- 1/2 cup chopped scallions
- 3 lemons, freshly squeezed
- 1/4 cup mint
- 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- add beans, walnuts, cucumber or other ingredients
