And I am so much happier and more satisfied than I have ever been with my food choices because of how I feel. I have found taste, nutrition, and joy in the choices I make when I eat. Truly. When I hear Marie Kondo’s famous line, “If it brings you joy, keep it”, I translate it into “If it brings you joy, eat it”. A food swamp is defined as an area where there is an abundance of fast food and they outnumber healthy food options. We all know those areas. A food desert is an area with little access to affordable, nutritious food. We know those areas too. According to the Blue Zones, if you guessed Food Swamps you're right. New research done at the University of Connecticut found that living in a food swamp is a stronger predictor of obesity than living in a food desert.
1 week agoKindness prevailed on my morning walk today. I was amazed and a few times felt like crying tears of joy. Multiple times I saw people stopping to help others that were stuck and helpless. One van that was high in the driveway drift was joined by people waiting at a bus stop and a city police officer that all joined in to successfully free him. People shoveling and snow blowing blocks so sidewalks were clear. Heart warming walk. These people were giving to give and not to receive. That’s true kindness. And happiness. 2 weeks agoSleep is a critical piece of the wellness puzzle. Wearing a Fitbit to bed allows me to view my sleep score. For me, a score of 90 or excellent is rare. It doesn’t happen often so I continue to work on the why. My bedtime routine, daily exercise intake and dietary pattern all work to make this number increase and more importantly allows me the energy and zest to accomplish my goals. Small changes.
